These questions are more challenging than the practice questions in the blog post: TDA Skills Test Practice Questions. They are based on the TDA QTS Numeracy Online Test Paper 1 and are similar to practice test 8. Remember, though that the real test is not normally as hard as the online practice test so don’t panic (easier said than done, I know).

1. A teacher interviewed 24 pupils to review their progress. Each pupil was allocated 9 minutes. What was the minimum number of half hour lessons needed to carry out all of the interviews?

2. Three 57 seater coaches are booked for a school trips. 3 classes of 28 pupils, 8 teachers and 5 parents are booked on the trip. How many more pupils could go on the trip?

3. A school’s end of Key Stage 3 english test results for a class of 25 pupils showed that 18 pupils scored level 4 and above. What percentage score was this?

4. 100 pupils correctly completed a sponsored spelling test of 58 words. Each pupil was sponsored at 5p per word. How much did the pupils raise in total?

5. What is 0.04 multiplied by 14? Give your answer as a decimal.

6. In a group of pupils 87.5% passed a GCSE examination. What fraction did not pass? Give your answer in its lowest terms.

7. Pupils spend 25 hours in lessons each week. 7 lessons were allocated to English. What percentage of lesson time each week was spent on other subjects?

8. 3/5 of a group of 95 pupils took part in voluntary work. How many pupils was this?

9. A teacher completed a claim form for the number of miles travelled to and from 6 ICT sessions. The journey one way was 15 and half miles? What was the total number of miles claimed for.

10. A pupil scored 73% in a test. In a later test, a pupil scored 49 out of 70. What was the difference between the percentage scores obtained by the pupil in the two tests?

11. A mini bus travelled 100 miles and used 0.25 litres of fuel per mile. Fuel cost 56 p per litre. What was the cost of the journey?

12. A test takes 1 hour 50 min. A pupil is allowed 10% extra time. The test starts at 12:25. At what time must the pupil finish the test? Give your answer using the 24 hour clock

Our goal is to help budding teachers to pass the test and become confident in Maths. Contact me on 020 3287 4673 if you need a tutor.

In this video I’ll be looking at the three types of Fractions to Percentages that crop up in the practice questions from the Passing the Numeracy Skills Test and the online tests. If you are going to study for only one type of question – this is the one as it comes up a lot. If you’d like to read a blog post (instead of a video post), here it is: how to pass the qts skills test – percentages

About us

Hi. I’m Adrian Beckett. I’ve been helping trainee teachers pass the TDA QTS Skills Test for the last 4 years. Our goal is to help budding teachers to pass the test and become confident in Maths.

These questions are more challenging than the practice questions in the blog post: TDA Skills Test Practice Questions. They are based on the TDA QTS Numeracy Online Test Paper 3. Remember, though that the real test is not normally as hard as the online practice test so don’t panic (easier said than done, I know).

1. Three quarters of the total marks in an exam come from a written paper and a quarter of the marks from coursework. There are two sections of the coursework. A section on “The history of Denmark” represents a quarter of the marks. What fraction of the total marks come from the section “The history of Denmark”? (I hope that makes sense)

2. In a year group of 160 pupils, 25% acheived a level 5 in a Key Stage 2 Test. How many pupils acheived a level 5?

3. In a year group of 120 pupils, 30 acheived an A* grade. What percentage achieved an A* grade in GCSE English?

4. A pupil entering a Year 6 class has an actual age of 9 years and 4 months. The report from his previous school states that his reading age is 15 months above his actual age. What is the pupils reading age in years and months?

5. A sixth form group raises 76.50 for a charity. The money will divided between 3 charities. How much will each charity receive?

6. A teacher attends a consortium meeting. The journey is 6.5 miles each way. Travel expenses may be claimed at 30p per mile. How much is the teacher entitled to claim?

7. A primary school has 80 pupils in year 6. 32 pupils acheived three level 5s. What proportion as a decimal acheived three level 5s?

8. A teacher plans a school trip which includes a 147 km journey in France. As an approximation 7 km is 4 miles. How long is the journey in miles?

9. For a practice task a primary teacher needs 25ml of liquid for each pupil. There are 24 pupils in the class. Hwo many ml are needed?

10. A group activity contains two tasks. In the first task 2 members each 3 marks each and the other 3 members 4 marks each. What is the total number of marks acheived by the group?

11. A school is planned for 54 pupils. One adult is needed for each 9 pupils. How many adults are needed?

12. A lesson begins at 8:20. The teacher prepares a 10 min introduction followed by a 15 min video clip and then a 25 min activity. What time does the activity end?

Hi. I’m Adrian Beckett. I’ve been helping trainee teachers pass the TDA QTS Skills Test for the last 4 years. I also run a small agency which finds QTS Skills Test tutors for students in the UK. I’m very proud to say we have a 100% success rate and we’ve helped 54 students pass. Our goal is to help budding teachers to pass the test and become confident in Maths.

To get the answers or get a tutor contact me

I have written this test using similar questions to the online practice tests.

1. A pupil scores 17 out of a 20 in a Maths test. What percentage does he get?

2. There are 24 pupils in a class. Each pupil raises 20 per word in a sponsored spell with 30 words. How much did the pupils raise in total?

3. Dining tables seat 7 children. How many tables are needed to seat 157 children?

4. A test has 40 questions each worth one mark. The pass mark was 70%. How many questions had to be answered correctly to pass the test?

5. £1 = 1.8 euros. How many pounds are 360 euros?

6. A class starts at 11:15. There are three classes each lasting 55 mins and then lunch. What time does lunch start?

7. What is 18% as a decimal?

8. Multiply 3.5 x 6.5.

9. Find 20% of 260

10. What’s 5.6 x 100?

11. 4km is 7 miles. How many kilometres is 35 miles?

12. To get a Level 4 mark in an English test, you need to get 60%. A child scores 13 marks out of 20. How far was the child away from passing?
