We’re a team of Maths and English tutors. We specialise in supporting children for the 11+ exam for both grammar and independent schools. We’ve looked high and low for past papers and published them on this page so you don’t need to go searching around.
I’m Adrian Beckett - experienced tutor and founder of Adrian Beckett Tutors.
You want a tutor who:
has a track record of helping students pass independent and grammar school exams
is trustworthy. All our tutors are CRB checked.
has plenty of experience tutoring the 11+
Grammar School Exam 11+ Past Papers
These exams are normally very challenging. They include many topics never seen at school including: algebra, reverse fraction, volume, rotational symmetry and more
Independent School 11+ Past Papers
These exams test what children would be expected to to have learnt at primary school. They are a normally a fair assessment of children’s ability and test children’s problem solving skills. We recommend you concentrate more on problem solving than on answering specific question types. Look at intuitive ways of answering questions and not using algebra and procedural mathematics.
Here are the tests for the bigger schools, where you might be hoping to get a place or/and a scholarship.
St Olaves, Orpington. Level 4/5 work from National Curriculum and problem solving skills.
Dulwich College, Dulwich. Level 4/5 work with some topics not expected at primary school including addition/subtraction of fractions with different denominators, decimal division
Alleyn’s School, Dulwich. A difficult 11+ past paper with some topics less likely to be taught at primary level: addition/subtraction of fractions and mixed numbers and venn diagrams
North London Girl’s Consortium Group A: Francis Holland (Clarence Gate), Francis Holland (Graham Terrace), Heathfield School, Notting Hill and Ealing High School, Queen’s College, St. Albans High School, St. Helen’s High School, South Hampstead High School, The Royal School, Hampstead. These are easier than North London Girl’s Consortium B. The 11+ questions are quite similar so you can do a fair bit of question targeting.
North London Girl’s Consortium Group B: Channing School, City of London School for Girls, More House, North London Collegiate School, Northwood College, Queen’s Gate School, St. James Independent School, The Godolphin and Latymer School. These are difficult 11+ papers and I use them to prepare my students for these and other schools. They don’t get much harder than these.
Emmanuel School, Battersea Rise. The 11+ past paper starts off gently and continues to be of reasonable difficulty until you get to question 30. Don’t worry if you find the last 3 questions from 30 to 32 tricky. I’ll be honest it took me a little longer than usual to find the answers. In fact, a boy I (- Adrian) tutored last year who received a scholarship for Dulwich College also stumbled. Again, I’d recommend not using algebra but to look at the problems more intuitively.
Alleyn’s School, Dulwich. A cross between a grammar school and independent school exam. Multiple choice and problem solving questions to be answered
Westminster School, Westminster. I believe you can purchase a 13+ past paper from the school, so there might be the possibility to purchase an 11+ past paper too.
